Depeche Mode is a British electronic music band that formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980. The original lineup consisted of Dave Gahan (lead vocals), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Andy Fletcher (keyboards), and Vince Clarke (keyboards). Over the years, there have been changes in the lineup, with Alan Wilder joining in 1982 and Vince Clarke leaving shortly after the release of the band's debut album, "Speak & Spell."

Depeche Mode rose to prominence in the 1980s and became one of the pioneers of synth-pop music. They are known for their dark and atmospheric sound, often characterized by Gahan's distinctive baritone vocals and Gore's introspective and poetic lyrics. Some of their most popular and enduring songs include "Just Can't Get Enough," "People Are People," "Enjoy the Silence," "Personal Jesus," and "Policy of Truth."
