Ed Asner (1929-2021) was an American actor, voice actor, and a former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He was born on November 15, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, and passed away on August 29, 2021. Asner had a prolific career in the entertainment industry, spanning several decades.

He was best known for his role as Lou Grant, a character he portrayed in two television series: "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (1970–1977) and its spin-off "Lou Grant" (1977–1982). Asner's portrayal of Lou Grant earned him multiple Emmy Awards, showcasing his versatility as an actor. His work in television also included guest appearances on various shows and voice acting roles, such as providing the voice for the character Carl Fredricksen in the animated film "Up" (2009).
