Flea, whose real name is Michael Peter Balzary, is the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, an American rock band formed in 1983. Flea is known for his energetic and distinctive bass playing style, as well as his charismatic stage presence.

Born on October 16, 1962, in Melbourne, Australia, Flea co-founded the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Hillel Slovak (guitar), and Jack Irons (drums). The band has undergone several lineup changes over the years, with Flea being the only constant member.

Flea's bass playing is characterized by his slap and pop technique, a style that involves slapping the strings with the thumb and popping them with the fingers. His unique approach to the bass guitar has had a significant influence on the funk rock genre, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest bassists in the history of rock music.
