Gene Wilder was an American actor, comedian, and filmmaker known for his comedic roles in film and television. He was born on June 11, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and his birth name was Jerome Silberman. Gene Wilder is best remembered for his collaborations with director Mel Brooks and his iconic portrayal of Willy Wonka in the 1971 film "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." Some of his other notable roles include Leo Bloom in "The Producers" (1967), Dr. Frederick Frankenstein in "Young Frankenstein" (1974), and his partnership with comedian Richard Pryor in several films, including "Silver Streak" (1976) and "Stir Crazy" (1980).
