"Ghostbusters" is a popular franchise that originated with the 1984 American supernatural comedy film of the same name, directed by Ivan Reitman. The film was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, who also starred in the lead roles alongside Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson. The story follows a group of eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business to combat a surge in paranormal activity.

The success of the original film led to the creation of a media franchise that includes an animated television series, comic books, video games, and various merchandise. The film's iconic theme song, "Ghostbusters," performed by Ray Parker Jr., became a chart-topping hit.

Over the years, there have been several iterations and sequels in the Ghostbusters franchise. In addition, a new installment titled "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" was released in 2021. Directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, it serves as a direct sequel to the original Ghostbusters films, bringing back some of the original cast members and introducing new characters.
