"Guardians of the Galaxy" is a Marvel Comics superhero team that first appeared in "Guardians of the Galaxy" #1 in 1969. The team has undergone various iterations over the years, but the modern incarnation, which gained widespread popularity, was introduced in the 2008 comic series written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. This version of the team includes characters like Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot.

The Guardians of the Galaxy gained even more mainstream recognition with the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014, directed by James Gunn. The film features Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot. The movie was praised for its humor, soundtrack, and the chemistry among the cast.

The success of the first film led to the creation of a sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," released in 2017. James Gunn directed both films, and they are known for their blend of action, humor, and memorable characters.

The Guardians of the Galaxy have also appeared in other MCU films, such as "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame," where they played crucial roles in the overarching narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
