Sir John Hurt (1940-2017) was a highly respected and versatile English actor known for his distinctive voice and a career that spanned over six decades. He was born on January 22, 1940, in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, and passed away on January 25, 2017.

Hurt's career included a wide range of roles in film, television, and theater. Some of his most notable film roles include Kane in "Alien" (1979), John Merrick in "The Elephant Man" (1980), Winston Smith in "1984" (1984), and Mr. Ollivander in the "Harry Potter" film series. He received critical acclaim and several award nominations for his performances throughout his career.

In addition to his film work, John Hurt appeared in numerous television productions, including the lead role in the television adaptation of George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" and his portrayal of Quentin Crisp in "The Naked Civil Servant," for which he won a BAFTA Award.
