Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, California. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney. However, Mustaine was replaced by Kirk Hammett in 1983.

Metallica achieved massive success and became one of the most influential and commercially successful heavy metal bands in the world. Their early albums, such as "Kill 'Em All," "Ride the Lightning," and "Master of Puppets," are considered classics in the genre. The band is known for its aggressive musical style, complex song structures, and socially conscious lyrics.
