New Order is a British band formed in 1980 by the remaining members of Joy Division, following the death of their lead singer, Ian Curtis. The band includes Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Stephen Hague (drums), and Gillian Gilbert (keyboards, guitar). Their sound is a distinctive blend of post-punk and electronic dance music, often characterized by its melodic hooks, synthesized textures, and danceable beats.
Their debut album, Movement (1981), was followed by Power, Corruption & Lies (1983), which featured the hit single "Blue Monday," one of the best-selling 12-inch singles of all time. New Order's blend of electronic and rock elements helped shape the sound of the 1980s and 1990s.
Other notable albums include Low-Life (1985), Substance (1987), and Technique (1989). They went on hiatus in the early 1990s but reunited several times since then, continuing to influence and inspire artists across genres. Their music remains influential, and they are celebrated for their innovative approach to music and their impact on both the rock and electronic dance music scenes.
