"The Phantom Menace" is a 1999 science fiction film and the first installment in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, directed by George Lucas. It is the fourth film in the Star Wars saga in terms of the in-universe chronological order. The movie is set before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy and follows the rise of the Sith and the emergence of key characters in the Star Wars universe.

The film introduces characters such as Anakin Skywalker, who later becomes Darth Vader, and Queen Padmé Amidala, as well as Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn. The story centers around a trade dispute and a hidden Sith Lord's plot to disrupt the Galactic Republic. The film was met with mixed reviews from both critics and fans, but it was a box office success and has become a significant part of the Star Wars franchise.
