* Kathy Dosdall is an American musician and vocalist, known as a member of the electronic band Information Society. She joined the band in the late 1980s and contributed to their distinctive sound. Dosdall was particularly important in shaping the band's vocal arrangements and bringing a more diverse vocal presence alongside the band's main vocalist, Kurt Harland.
Role in Information Society:
- Kathy Dosdall was featured as a background vocalist and co-vocalist on various tracks, particularly in the early years of the band's career.
- Her voice helped balance and complement Kurt Harland’s lead vocals, adding more texture and depth to the band's dynamic.
- Dosdall contributed to some of the group’s most famous tracks, such as "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)" and other songs from their self-titled debut album (1988).
After Information Society:
-
Dosdall worked in the music industry for more than 30 years, was best known for her last job as a buyer for the powerful and now-defunct Musicland chain. Dosdall was primarily the country and kids’ product buyer at the end of her stay with that company, but was also the first rap buyer for the chain. She retired from the industry when Best Buy acquired the chain and then moved the Musicland staff to its headquarters.
Dosdall began her career in the record business immediately after graduating from school as a record picker in the now-defunct Dart Distributing rackjobbing operation in Minneapolis. She also joined the Pickwick wholesale operation, which also spawned the Musicland chain. While at Pickwick she switched from the warehouse to the front office, and when the wholesaler was going out of business in the mid-1980s, she landed a job with the Musicland chain.
Though Kathy Dosdall may not have had a high-profile solo career, her contributions to the band's sound helped shape Information Society's early success and legacy in the synthpop and electronic music scenes.
