"Hatful of Hollow" is the second studio album by the English rock band The Smiths, released in 1984. However, it's important to note that "Hatful of Hollow" is often referred to as a compilation album rather than a traditional studio album. The reason for this is that it primarily features BBC Radio 1 studio recordings and live performances of songs that had been previously released or were intended for release.

The album includes alternative versions and different recordings of some of The Smiths' early tracks, showcasing the band's versatility and capturing the essence of their live performances. Some notable tracks on "Hatful of Hollow" include "This Charming Man," "William, It Was Really Nothing," and "How Soon Is Now?" The album is celebrated for its raw and energetic sound, making it a favorite among fans of The Smiths.

The Smiths were a British rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke, and drummer Mike Joyce. They quickly gained popularity in the 1980s with their unique blend of indie pop, jangle pop, and post-punk.

Some of their most well-known songs include "This Charming Man," "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," "How Soon Is Now?," and "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want." The Smiths were known for Morrissey's distinctive and often melancholic lyrics, combined with Marr's intricate and melodic guitar work.

Despite their relatively short career, the band left a lasting impact on the alternative music scene. They disbanded in 1987, and both Morrissey and Marr pursued solo careers. The Smiths' music continues to be influential, and their legacy has endured, with a dedicated fanbase appreciating their contributions to the indie and alternative music genres.
