From this lacquer, a metal master plate, also known as a father, is created.

The Process of Creating a Metal Master Plate:

1. Lacquer Cutting:

   • The final version of the audio is cut into a lacquer disc. This is done using a lathe, which carves the grooves of the music into the lacquer, allowing it to be played back. This lacquer is highly delicate.

2. Electroplating (Mother and Father):

   • The lacquer disc is then coated with a thin layer of silver or gold through a process called electroplating.
   • This results in the creation of the mother plate, which is a positive copy of the lacquer.

3. Metal Master Plate (Father):

   • From the mother plate, a father plate is created. This is a negative version and is made from metal, usually nickel or a similar alloy. The father plate is what will be used to make the stampers that are used for pressing the vinyl records.

4. Stampers:

   • The father plate is used to create stampers. These are the final metal molds that are used to press the grooves of the album onto the vinyl.

5. Pressing:

   • The stampers are placed in a press machine with vinyl pellets, which are melted and pressed between the stampers, transferring the grooves onto the vinyl discs.
